Origin
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia', also known as the Portuguese laurel cherry, originates from the areas around the Mediterranean Sea. This includes Portugal and the western parts of Spain and Morocco. This directly explains the addition of 'lusitanica', which is Latin for 'from Portugal'. Additionally, the species has also established itself in Ireland, Great Britain, New Zealand, and parts of Western America.

Characteristics
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' has a striking feature: the glossy, dark green leaves that are elongated and narrow. These leaves are narrower than those of the normal Portuguese laurel cherry. The leaf remains thick and green throughout the year, making the plant an attractive, ever-green addition to any garden. In early summer, the plant produces small white flowers that form clusters, followed by small red to black berries in autumn.

Care
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' requires significantly less maintenance compared to other woody plants. The plant's growth is moderate and it prefers full sun or partial shade. It thrives best in well-drained soil.
