Origin
The Viburnum odoratissimum 'Coppertop', also known as the Sweet Viburnum, originates from Southeast Asia. This versatile plant can mainly be found in countries such as India, Myanmar and the Philippines. It is cultivated worldwide for its decorative characteristics and is often used in landscape architecture.
Characteristics
The Viburnum odoratissimum 'Coppertop' is an evergreen shrub that can reach between 170 and 190 centimetres in height. This variety is characterised by its copper-toned new growth, which later changes to dark green, and the fragrant white flowers that appear in the Spring and Summer. Its leaves are elliptical in shape, glossy and leathery. It lends texture and colour to the garden landscape.
Care
This plant is relatively straightforward to look after. It grows best in full sun to partial shade and can handle various types of soils, as long as they are well-drained. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods, but it is also crucial to prevent the plant from standing in water with its roots. Although it is fairly drought-tolerant, regular fertilisation and a good prune in late winter or early spring will enhance the overall health and appearance of the plant.
