Origin
The Alcantarea imperialis originates from Brazil. It grows in the rocky and mountainous areas there. This plant belongs to the Bromeliad family and is also known as the Giant of Bromeliads.

Characteristics
The Alcantarea imperialis is an impressive plant that can reach a diameter of up to 1.5 meters. The leaves are thick, leathery and form a large rosette. They are predominantly green in colour but can exhibit red to purple hues. The plant produces an immense flower stalk, which can grow up to 3.5 meters high, with dozens of red to purple flowers at the end.

Care
This plant prefers a bright and warm location, and can also grow well in sunny places. It's important that the soil in which the plant is placed is well-drained to prevent root rot. The Alcantarea imperialis only needs watering once every few weeks, and even less during the winter months. In the growing season, in the spring and summer, the plant appreciates a general liquid plant food.
