Origin
The Alocasia macrorrhiza, also known as giant taro, is originally found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia to East Australia. Normally, the plant is found in damp, shady areas. However, the plant has spread worldwide due to human activity and now grows in various tropical and subtropical regions.

Characteristics
The Alocasia macrorrhiza is characterised by its large, heart-shaped leaves that resemble arrowheads. These leaves can reach a length of up to 1 metre. The plant has a sturdy, upright stem and can reach a height of 4 metres. The flowers of the Alocasia macrorrhiza are white and produce greenish berries after pollination.

Care
When caring for the Alocasia macrorrhiza, it is important to mimic the conditions of its natural environment. The plant needs high humidity and sufficient (indirect) sunlight. Regular watering is critical, but overwatering can cause root rot. As recommended for most tropical plants, well-draining soil is essential for healthy growth of the Alocasia macrorrhiza.
