Origin
The Ophiopogon japonicus, also known as the Mondo Grass, is an evergreen plant native to East Asia. Here, the plant grows in forests, meadows and along the edges of streams. Its distribution area stretches from Japan and Korea to the Philippines.

Characteristics
The Ophiopogon japonicus is a herbaceous plant species from the asparagus family. The plant grows in clumps. It reaches a height of approximately 30 cm and the leaves are long, narrow, flattened and grass-like. In the summer months, the Mondo Grass develops purple-blue, bell-shaped flowers on slender stems, followed by shiny, dark blue berries.

Care
While the Ophiopogon japonicus requires little maintenance, the plant prefers a spot in partial shade or full shade. It can thrive in both dry and moist soil. During droughts or heatwaves, the plant needs extra water. Its hardy characteristics make this species a sustainable option for garden and landscape design.
