Coccoloba uvifera (130-150)
Bush

Origin
The Podocarpus macrophyllus, also known as the Yew Pine or the Buddhist Pine, originated in Japan and South China. As the oldest plant species on earth, it thrives in moderate to subtropical climates. It is often found growing in mixed species forests on mountain slopes, or in lowlands in the southern part of its range.
Characteristics
As an evergreen conifer, the Podocarpus macrophyllus can reach up to 20 metres in height. It has lance-shaped, dark green leaves that sit closely together and are 6 to 12 cm long and 1 to 1.5 cm wide. The plant blooms with small, inconspicuous flowers, which ripen into fleshy, ovular cones measuring 1-2 cm long. The cones contain one to two seeds and change from green to purple as they mature.
Care
In general, the Podocarpus macrophyllus requires little maintenance. However, it needs well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight to grow well, though it can also grow in shady spots. In terms of watering, it is important to keep the soil lightly moist, but to avoid letting the roots stand in water, which can cause root rot. The plant is best planted in the spring or autumn. Regular pruning helps to maintain the desired shape of the plant.
