DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Puya harmsii is a plant species that originates from South America, more specifically from the high, rocky areas in the Andes of Bolivia and Peru. The plant is part of the Bromeliaceae family and is closely related to the more well-known pineapple plant.

Characteristics
Puya harmsii can reach a height of approximately one to two meters, depending on the conditions and care. The plant has green, pointed leaves that can vary from three to six centimetres wide. The length of the foliage can vary from 30 to 60 cm. The plant typically produces flower spikes with bright blue flowers that have a strong attraction for many types of birds and bees.

Care
The Puya harmsii has a preference for full sun and well-drained soil. Although the plant can tolerate some degree of drought, it is advisable to water regularly, especially in the growth phase. The plant is hardy and can tolerate temperatures down to about -10°C, but it is recommended to bring it indoors during prolonged periods of severe frost. An annual addition of a little compost can contribute to the health and growth of the plant.
