Origin
The Fittonia Mini White originates from the Amazon rainforest in South America. This plant is part of the Acanthaceae family, which includes over 4,000 different species. In its natural habitat, the Fittonia grows as a ground cover in the shadow of larger plants. The name is derived from Elizabeth and Sarah Fitton who penned books about botany in the 19th century.
Characteristics
The Fittonia Mini White is a small shrub with distinctive leaves. These leaves are green in colour with a dotted pattern in white. What's unique about this plant is that the leaves react to changes in light intensity. The plant rarely produces flowers, but when they do appear, they are spike-shaped. The growth habit of the Fittonia is creeping, and the plant generally does not grow higher than 15 cm.
Care
Despite its tropical origin, the Fittonia Mini White does not have an extremely high heat or light requirement. The plant thrives in a place with lots of indirect light but can also survive with less light. Keep the potting soil moist, but never too wet and avoid stagnant water, as this can cause mould. The Fittonia appreciates high humidity, so a place in the bathroom or kitchen can be ideal. Avoid abrupt temperature fluctuations and maintain a constant temperature around 20 degrees Celsius.
