Origin
The Calathea Dottie is an exotic plant species originally from the South American rainforest. The plant is named after its discoverer, a plant breeder named Dottie.
Characteristics
The Calathea Dottie stands out because of its dark, almost blackish leaves with a purple underside. These pronounced colour contrasts are characteristic of this species. The leaf of the Calathea Dottie folds up in the evening, which has given the plant its nickname 'prayer plant'. The Calathea Dottie maintains a compact shape and on average reaches a height of 60 centimetres.
Care
The Calathea Dottie prefers a place with indirect light, avoid direct sunlight to prevent the leaves from burning. If you want to keep the plant in optimal condition, it requires regular care. It has a moderate water requirement, taking care to prevent the plant from standing in water. The humidity around the plant must be high to keep the plant in optimal condition, due to its tropical origin. Care also includes fertilising the plant, preferably with a fertiliser specifically intended for indoor plants.
