Origin
The Codiaeum variegatum 'Pictum', also known as the colourful garden croton, has its origin in the tropical regions of Southeast Asia. It is primarily found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and the western Pacific Ocean. Historically, this plant was an important part of traditional Polynesian ornamental horticulture.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Codiaeum variegatum 'Pictum' are the wide, shiny leaves that can have many different hues, from green, yellow, orange to even red. These leaves can grow to a length of 15 to 30 centimetres. The plant is also known for its sculptural shape, which can be a striking addition to any interior. It is an evergreen shrub that can reach a height of 3 meters under ideal conditions.
Care
In terms of care, the Codiaeum variegatum 'Pictum' needs a warm and bright environment, but not in direct sunlight because of the risk of leaf burn. It requires moderate watering, with the soil being allowed to dry between waterings. The plant also requires high humidity and can benefit from regular misting.
