Origin
The Begonia Beleaf Maui Sunset is a houseplant that originally hails from the tropical rainforest in Brazil. It is a member of the Begonia family, which consists of more than 1,000 different species. This family is named after Michel Begon, a French marquis from the 17th century who had a great love for botany.
Characteristics
The Begonia Beleaf Maui Sunset is an evergreen perennial with a lush, shrub-like growth habit. The plant has large, striking leaves with a distinctive pattern of dark green and bright orange, hence the addition of 'Maui Sunset' in its name. It has stems that grow upright, giving a spherical growth form.
Care
The Begonia Beleaf Maui Sunset requires somewhat specific care to maintain its unique colour and shape. The plant needs light, but no direct sun and does well at average room temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius. It prefers well-drained soil and should be watered moderately, so that the roots never stand in water or dry out. Regular cleaning of the leaves by gently wiping them also helps to keep the plant looking its best.
