Origin
The Pteris ensiformis, better known as the Silver Brake Fern, finds its origin in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa. This fern species is part of the Pteridaceae family, a large family of about 50 genera and 950 species of ferns, mainly inhabitants of tropical areas.
Characteristics
The Pteris ensiformis is characterised by its slender, light green leaves, with sturdy lighter veins. This gives the plant a delicate and exotic appearance. Each leaf consists of multiple lanceolate pinnules. The plant can reach a maximum height of 40 to 60 cm and is capable of growing all year round under the right conditions.
Care
The care of the Pteris ensiformis requires a specific light and humidity regime. The plant thrives best in indirect light; direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves. It is ideal to place the plant in a location with high humidity, such as a bathroom. Watering should be moderate, as the plant does not like overly wet soil, but neither should it dry out. Finally, the plant can tolerate temperature fluctuations, but it performs optimally at temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius.
