Origin
The Ligustrum sinense, also known as the Chinese Privet, finds its origin in East and Southeast China. This plant is part of the Oleaceae family and is known in many parts of the world for its ability to be grown as a bonsai. However, it can also be found in other locations, such as the United States and Australia, where it is considered an invasive species.

Characteristics
The Ligustrum sinense distinguishes itself by its glossy oval leaves that grow in pairs and have a dark green colour. The bonsai version of this plant has the same characteristics, but on a miniature scale. The plant produces small white flowers in clusters, usually in the late spring and early summer. The flowers develop into small berries that are black or deep blue in colour when fully ripe.

Care
The care of a Ligustrum sinense Bonsai includes regular watering, especially during dryer periods, but avoids making the soil too wet. It requires good sunlight exposure, but can also grow in partial sunlight. Fertilising should be done during the growth season, usually in the spring and summer. The plant also needs to be pruned back annually to maintain its shape and to support the health of the bonsai.
