Origin
The Cyrtomium falcatum, also known as the Holly Fern, originates in Asia. It is widespread in East Asia, particularly in countries like China and Japan, but it can also be found in Australia and Hawaii. This type of fern typically grows on rocky terrain in forests, along mountain slopes and streams.
Characteristics
The Cyrtomium falcatum is notable for its glossy, dark green leaves that are in the form of a sword. These leaves can reach a length of 30 to 70 cm. The plant has lance-shaped or sickle-shaped leaf segments, hence the nickname 'Holly Fern'. It has a compact growth form with a crown diameter of up to 60 cm in mature specimens.
Care
The Holly Fern does not require much light and thrives in a spot with shade or partial shade. It's important to water the plant regularly, though you should ensure that the soil does not completely dry out between watering. The plant is not very tolerant of low temperatures and is most suitable for indoors. Regular fertilisation is also recommended for optimal growth.
