DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Zelkova parvifolia, otherwise known as the Chinese elm, originates from East Asia. Here it grows in mountainous regions and forests. Human intervention has also introduced the plant to other parts of the world, primarily in Europe and North America.

Characteristics
Zelkova parvifolia is a small to medium sized tree with a narrow, upward facing crown. The leaves are small and oval shaped with a pointed tip. They have a bright green colour and turn reddish-brown in the autumn. The flowers of the Zelkova parvifolia are small, yellow-green in colour and appear in early spring.

Care
The Zelkova parvifolia thrives in full sun and in partially shaded conditions. The soil needs to be well-draining and it is advised to water the tree regularly, especially during dry periods. If using as a bonsai, the tree should be trimmed regularly during the growing season and the soil should always be kept moist. The Zelkova parvifolia is also winter-hardy and exceptionally tolerant of urban conditions.
