Acer palmatum Phoenix
F00002137
Origin
The Pinus parviflora, also known as the Japanese white pine, traces its origin back to Japan. This plant species is primarily found in the mountain regions on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu. It is a native species that has been present in the Japanese landscape for thousands of years and is an integral part of the local biodiversity.
Characteristics
The Pinus parviflora is an evergreen tree that reaches heights between 15 and 25 meters. Its bark is grey and rough, and the needles grow in bundles of five. These are soft, a maximum of 8 centimetres long, and carry a light blue-green tint. A distinguishing characteristic of the Pinus parviflora is the hanging cones, that develop into brown, woody fruits.
Care
For optimal growth, the Pinus parviflora requires plenty of sunlight, but it can also survive in partial shade. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and is relatively drought-tolerant. Pruning can take place in late spring or early summer to maintain its shape and promote growth. It is important to protect the plant from strong winds and high temperatures.
