Origin
The Pseudolarix amabilis, better known as the Golden Larch, has its origin in China. The species is primarily found in the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi, where it grows in mountainous terrain at heights of 500 to 1,000 metres.
Characteristics
The Golden Larch is an evergreen conifer with a striking bark that flakes off in small patches. The needles of this tree are dark green with a yellowish underside and change to golden yellow in the autumn, from which the tree gets its name. The tree produces cones up to 6 centimetres in size in the spring.
Care
The Golden Larch requires a sunny position with well-draining soil. The tree can reach a height of 20 to 30 metres and requires plenty of space to grow. Regular pruning is recommended to keep the tree in the desired shape. During dry periods, the tree needs extra water, but it cannot tolerate prolonged drought or standing water.
