Origin
The Sageretia theezans, also known as the Chinese bird plum, is a plant species that originates from China. This species grows in both mountainous and flat terrains, ranging from lush forests to dry slopes. The Chinese bird plum is widespread in other East Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
Characteristics
The Sageretia theezans is an evergreen plant that can grow up to four metres in height. This plant is known for its small, oval leaves and white flowers that bloom in the summer. It produces small red fruits that ripen in the autumn. The bark of the plant peels off to reveal an attractive red colour.
Care
Caring for the Sageretia theezans requires a moderate amount of maintenance. The plant prefers partial shade to full sun and needs well-draining soil. It's important to regularly water the plant during the growing seasons, however the soil must be dry before the plant is watered again. During the winter months, the plant can withstand light frost but it would be better to bring the plant indoors in colder weather. Ideally, pruning of the plant should take place in the spring.
