Origin
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Vittatum', also known as the Spider Plant, originates from South Africa. This type of plant mainly grows in the shady undergrowth and along forest edges. It has spread from South Africa to other parts of the world and is now a popular houseplant.

Characteristics
A distinguishing characteristic of the Chlorophytum comosum 'Vittatum' are the long, narrow leaves that are white in the middle and green on the edges. These leaves can reach a length of about 20 to 40 centimetres. The plant produces small white flowers on long stems that grow into young plants, also known as 'pups'. The plant can grow up to about half a metre in height.

Care
The Chlorophytum comosum 'Vittatum' needs little sunlight and grows well in partial shade or even artificial light. Regular, but moderate watering is necessary, where excess water must be able to drain well. The plant cannot tolerate waterlogging. Fertiliser can be given during the growing period from spring to the end of summer, where a universal plant food suffices. A temperature between 15 and 23 degrees Celsius is ideal for the Spider Plant.
