Origin
The Carpinus betulus, otherwise known as the European hornbeam, is originally from Western Asia and Europe. This deciduous tree is primarily found in northern deciduous forests. The plant has been cultivated for thousands of years and belongs to the birch family.

Characteristics
The Carpinus betulus is a deciduous tree that can grow to a height of 15-25 metres. The leaves are oval to elliptical, dark green in colour, and have a clearly visible vein structure. This tree is known for its ridged, grey trunk and its fruits that resemble hops. In the autumn, the leaves change to stunning, golden hues.

Care
For the Carpinus betulus, it is best planted in moist, well-drained soil. This tree species can cope well with full sun and partial shade, making it quite easy to care for. Pruning is possible, preferably in the late autumn or early winter. Regular fertilisation is necessary to stimulate the tree's growth and health.
