The Hebe genus consists of about ninety species, most of which are endemic to New Zealand. Characteristics
The Hebe Burning Heart ® is primarily known for its distinctive red leaves and small purple flowers that grow in clusters on the plant. It can grow up to 1 metre high and assumes a circular growth shape. This plant sprouts bright red leaves in the early spring, which become more green-tinged in the summer. Its flowering period extends from July to autumn.
Care
The Hebe Burning Heart ® requires moderate care. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and needs well-draining, cool moist soil to grow. This plant needs regular watering, especially during lengthy dry spells, but at the same time, does not fare well with waterlogged conditions. It is beneficial to prune it yearly in the early spring to retain its compact shape and to promote new flowers.
