DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Thujopsis dolabrata 'Nana', also known as the Hiba or False Arborvitae, originates from Japan. The tree has been appreciated here for centuries for its elegant appearance and aromatic wood. Naturally, this conifer grows in the humid forests and on the mountainsides of Honshu and Shikoku, the largest islands of Japan.

Characteristics
Thujopsis dolabrata 'Nana' is a compact, slowly growing dwarf variation of the native Hiba and reaches a mature height of about 1 meter. Its charm lies in the evergreen, scale-like leaves that add an interesting, dense texture to the plant. The branches are covered with leaves that have different shades of green on each side, giving the plant a unique, two-tone effect. Conical and bushy in shape, this species is ideal for rock gardens, small gardens and container planting.

Care
This plant thrives in sunny to semi-shaded locations and prefers well-drained, damp but not too wet soil. As the Thujopsis dolabrata 'Nana' is a frost hardy and drought-tolerant plant, its care requires minimal effort. However, annual fertilisation in early spring with a complete garden fertiliser is beneficial to promote the plant's growth and health. Pruning is not often necessary, but can be done in early spring to control its size or maintain its shape.
