F00004215
Origin
The Osmanthus heterophyllus Goshiki, also known as the variegated holly osmanthus, originates from East Asia. This plant is native to Japan and can be found particularly in mountainous locations and woodland areas. The Osmanthus heterophyllus Goshiki made its debut in the Western world in the 19th century, where it can thrive excellently despite its exotic origin.
Characteristics
The Osmanthus heterophyllus Goshiki is an evergreen shrub which is characterised by its variegated leaf colour. The leaves are glossy green with irregular cream, golden yellow, and white spots, making this plant very decorative. It reaches a height and width of approximately 1.5 meters. The shrub produces small, white flowers which have a scent that is similar to that of jasmine in the autumn.
Care
Caring for the Osmanthus heterophyllus Goshiki is relatively easy. The plant can tolerate both drought and severe frost and can grow in various soil types, as long as it drains well. Full sun to semi-shade is the most suitable location for optimal growth and leaf colour. Pruning is advisable in the early spring to maintain the shape and stimulate new growth. All parts of the plant are robust and resistant to most diseases and pests.
