Origin
The Syringa meyeri 'Palibin' is a variant of the common lilac and originates from Korea. It is named after its inventor, the Russian botanist Frank Meyer, who discovered the species in Korea and brought it to the United States in the early 20th century. In English, the plant is sometimes referred to as the 'Korean dwarf lilac', reflecting its country of origin and compact shape.

Characteristics
The Syringa meyeri 'Palibin' stands out by its compact and shrub-like growth habit, with a maximum height and width of about 1.5 metres. It blooms from May to June with abundant, lightly scented lilac flowers that are striking in the spring period. The leaves of the 'Palibin' are egg-shaped and green in colour, turning yellow in the autumn. In winter, the plant retains its pleasing shape but loses its leaves.

Care
The Syringa meyeri 'Palibin' requires minimal but regular care. It prefers a sunny to semi-shaded location with well-draining soil. It is important to fertilise the plant annually in the autumn or early spring with compost, in order to promote flowering. Pruning is not necessary, only to maintain the shape of the shrub or to remove dead wood.
