Origin
The Cortaderia selloana 'Pink Phantom', also known as the Pink Pampas Grass, has its roots in South America. This particular species originates from the grasslands of Argentina and Brazil. Originally, it was predominantly found in areas with a warm and temperate climate, but it has adapted to many different types of environments.
Characteristics
The 'Pink Phantom' is a spectacular type of grass known for its long, graceful plumes. These plumes take on a pink colour in late summer and autumn, hence the name 'Pink Phantom'. The grass can reach a height of more than two metres, and is characterised by the long, narrow leaves that have a silvery sheen. Despite its exotic appearance, this species belongs to the family of grasses (Poaceae).
Care
Taking care of the Cortaderia selloana 'Pink Phantom' requires some attention. It is a sun-loving plant, and therefore needs a spot in full sunlight. In addition, the 'Pink Phantom' needs a well-draining soil to grow optimally. This plant is hardy, but may need protection in severe winters. Pruning is not necessary, except to remove dead leaves and keep the plant tidy.
