Origin
The Nandina domestica Obsessed, also known as 'Heavenly Bamboo', is a compact, evergreen shrub originating from East Asia. Here, the plant's natural habitats are forests and hilly areas. The word 'Nandina' is derived from the Japanese name for this plant, 'nan-ten'.
Characteristics
The Nandina domestica Obsessed is a popular ornamental plant because of its narrow, lance-shaped leaves, which have a vibrant red colour almost all year round. This compact plant can grow up to 70cm tall and has light, airy blossoms in the spring and summer. In winter, the plant bears bright red berries. A particular characteristic of the Obsessed variety is the intense red colouring of the new leaves in spring.
Care
For the care of the Nandina domestica Obsessed, it is important to know that this shrub does well in a sunny to semi-shaded location. It is an easy plant that can grow in different types of soil as long as it drains well. Although the plant is drought-tolerant, it is advisable to irrigate regularly during dry periods. Pruning is not necessary, but is tolerated to maintain or improve the shape.
