Origin
The Peperomia clusiifolia 'Red Margin' finds its roots in tropical and subtropical areas around the world, including South America and the Caribbean region. It belongs to the Peperomia family, a diverse group of more than 1,000 species. This graceful houseplant is commonly known as the 'Radiator Plant'.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Peperomia clusiifolia 'Red Margin' are the glossy, firm leaves with a striking red edge. The leaves are oval in shape and create a high ornamental value thanks to the beautiful colour contrast of dark green and red. The plant usually remains small, about 30 to 40 cm in height, making it particularly suitable for window sills and small spaces. Every year in the summer, the plant produces small flower spikes that contribute to its charm.
Care
Although the Peperomia clusiifolia 'Red Margin' is relatively low maintenance, there are some recommendations for its care. As a tropical plant it prefers a warm and slightly humid environment. Ideally, the plant is placed in a location with plenty of indirect light, but it can also tolerate a bit of shade. Watering is needed when the top layer of soil is dry, and overwatering should be avoided. The plant tolerates pruning well, which can be done to maintain its shape or to stimulate new growth.
