DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Caryota mitis, better known as the Burmese fishtail palm, originates from Southeast Asia. Here, this palm species is widespread throughout the tropical and subtropical rainforests. In particular, countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines are home to this plant, where the rich, moist climate is perfect for its growth.

Characteristics
The Caryota mitis is characterised by its unique leaves that resemble the tail of a fish, from which its nickname derives. This tree can reach heights of 12 to 25 meters, with leaves that can spread up to 6 meters wide. The foliage is divided into many small leaflets that grow along the leaf stalks. The Burmese fishtail palm is monocarpic, which means that the plant dies after blooming.

Care
The care of the Caryota mitis requires some attention to ensure its optimal growth. The plant prefers a location with bright, indirect light and humid air. It has an aversion to temperatures below 13 degrees Celsius and dry air can cause leaf burn in this palm. Watering should be increased in the summer and reduced in the winter, while the soil should be kept moist throughout the year. It is recommended to fertilise the Caryota mitis once a month with a balanced plant food.
