Origin
The Licuala grandis, also known as the fan palm, has its origin in the humid and shady rainforests of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. This botanical variety is primarily found in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and the Solomon Islands.

Characteristics
The specific characteristics of the Licuala grandis make it a unique plant, with its distinctive fan-shaped leaves that have earned it the name 'fan palm'. The leaves, which are a glossy, deep green, are large and nearly completely circular with delicate, serrated edges. The plant can reach a height of 2 to 3 metres and bears clusters of small, inconspicuous flowers in a yellow colour.

Care
For the care of the Licuala grandis, it's important to mimic the conditions of the original rainforest as closely as possible. This means providing a humid environment, indirect light and temperatures that do not fall below 16 degrees Celsius. Regular spraying will benefit the plant, and it's advisable to provide the plant with acidic to neutral soils for optimal growth. During the winter months, the amount of water given can be reduced, but the plant should not dry out in between.
