Origin
The Licuala grandis is a palm tree originating from the rainforests of Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean. This tropical palm is also known as a fan palm or ruffled fan palm due to its characteristic fan-shaped leaves.
Characteristics
The Licuala grandis is known for its impressive, fan-shaped leaves that have a striking shiny, dark green colour. These leaves can reach a large diameter, sometimes up to 2 meters. The palm can reach a height of 3 meters and has a slender trunk with a ribbed texture. It is a slow-growing plant that only increases a few centimetres in height per year.
Care
The Licuala grandis requires specific care conditions to thrive, as it is a tropical plant. The palm prefers high humidity and a constant temperature of at least 18 degrees Celsius. It should be placed in a spot with indirect, bright light, but no direct sunlight. Regular watering is necessary, but excessive water can lead to root rot, so it must be done in moderation. Finally, the Licuala grandis should be planted in a well-draining soil type to efficiently drain excess water.
