Origin
The Phoenix roebelenii, also known as the Pygmy Date Palm, is a type of palm plant from the Arecaceae family and Tamara subfamily. The Phoenix roebelenii originates from the regions of Laos and South Vietnam. The plant grows wild along riverbanks where the soil is rich in organic material, and the climate is tropical.

Characteristics
The Phoenix roebelenii is a medium-sized palm species that typically reaches a height of 2 to 3 metres. The plant has dark green, feather-shaped leaves that can grow 1 to 2 metres long. The trunk of this palm is slender and covered with old leaf base fibres. The palm develops small yellow flowers and fruits that resemble miniature dates, hence the nickname Pygmy Date Palm.

Care
The Phoenix roebelenii prefers well-drained soil and regular watering. The plant does not tolerate prolonged dry periods and has a high need for moisture. Although the Pygmy Date Palm can tolerate some shade, it performs best in a position with full sun. Temperature fluctuations are not problematic for this plant, and it can handle temperatures between 4 and 40 degrees Celsius. Regularly check the plant for scale and spider mites, as these pests can be particularly devastating to the Phoenix roebelenii.
