Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' (300-350)
Stem
4BUBUR017
Origin
The Veitchia merrillii, better known as the Christmas Palm, is native to the Philippines. This species grows in its natural environment in lowland forest areas, where it is commonly found. Branches of this palm tree can be found in elevations up to 400 meters above sea level.
Characteristics
The Veitchia merrillii boasts beautiful, feathery leaves which are predominantly green, but can develop a bluish tint under the right conditions. The plant produces attractive red fruits the size of a small plum. The tree can reach a height of about 25 meters under optimal growing conditions. In cultivation, however, it's usually limited to 15 meters.
Care
The Veitchia merrillii generally prefers average light conditions, but grows best in partial shade or indirect sunlight. Provide well-drained soil to prevent root rot. It's desirable to give the plant plenty of water, but it can be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings. Maintenance includes typical palm leaf pruning and sometimes a little extra calcium to prevent browning.
