Origin
The Rebutia muscula, alternatively known as the 'Small globe cactus', is a plant species originally hailing from Bolivia. This cactus belongs to the family of Cactaceae and is naturally found in the higher areas of the Andes mountains. The Rebutia muscula enjoys the relatively cool temperatures and the strong winds characteristic of these mountain areas.
Characteristics
The Rebutia muscula is a small, globular cactus that forms separate globes as it grows. The cactus has small, typical white spines on a green trunk and can produce red to orange flowers, which appear in the growth season. The flowers spring from the base of the cactus, providing a colourful contrast with the white spines. The formation of these flowers is a clear sign of a healthy, well-cared-for cactus.
Care
The Rebutia muscula, like most cacti, requires little maintenance and is thus ideal for beginner gardeners. The cactus does not tolerate excessive water, so it is advisable to plant the plant in a well-draining soil and water moderately. In the summer, the cactus enjoys full sun, but in the winter, it prefers a cooler environment. Avoid too much shade, as this can affect the growth and blossoming of the plant.
