Cordyline australis 'Red Star'
4CORSTU21
Origin
The Abies koreana Brillant is a fir-like plant that originates from South Korea. It naturally grows in the mountains where it often forms part of mixed forests. This plant species was introduced to the western world in the 20th century and has since been planted for decorative purposes.
Characteristics
The Abies koreana Brillant, also known as the Korean fir, has a compact, cone-shaped growth habit. The large, dark green needles of the plant are closely packed together and are distinctively glossy. The plant produces notable, purple-coloured cones in the spring that eventually turn brown. This striking plant can ultimately reach a height of about three meters.
Care
The Abies koreana Brillant is a hardy plant species that is well resistant to frost and tolerates light shade. It prefers a nutritious, well-draining soil with a neutral to acidic pH value. An annual dose of fertiliser can promote growth. Despite its tolerance to cold, it is wise to cover the soil around the plant with mulch in severe frost to protect the roots.
