Rhipsalis baccifera 'Oasis' 6/tray
4RHCOBP10
Origin
The Rhipsalis burchellii originates from the southeast of Brazil, where this plant can be found growing in the Atlantic Forest, a biodiversity hot spot. This species is part of the cactus family and is also an epiphyte, meaning it thrives in the top parts of trees.
Characteristics
Rhipsalis burchellii has noticeably long, drooping branches that are covered with small, soft spikes. Unlike most cacti, this species doesn't have thick, fleshy trunks. Instead, the trunks are cylindrical and thin, featuring small hairs that grow from the joints. It blooms with small white flowers and produces shiny, red-coloured fruits.
Care
Like all Rhipsalis species, the Rhipsalis burchellii requires a moist, well-draining soil and semi-shaded to shady light conditions for optimal growth. It needs to be watered regularly, especially during the growing season, but it is important to avoid water saturation as this can cause root rot. For this cactus, regular fertilization is also essential, especially during the growth phase.
