Use environmentally friendly potting soil

Climate and environmental protection play an increasingly important role in our society. We too are aware of this and are constantly trying to find ways to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. An example of this is the development of our Peat free substrate.

Peat has been a common ingredient in most potting soils since the 1950s. Peat, also called peat, consists of decomposing leaves, stems and other plant parts that are excavated from swampy areas. Peat contains a lot of organic matter, which in contact with oxygen forms CO2 that enters the air.

Peat bogs and fens are very unique ecosystems. Peat can be harvested quickly, but it takes generations to replace as it only grows a few millimeters (or less) per year. It is better if peat remains submerged so that it does not generate greenhouse gases. Landscapes and biodiversity are also preserved.

No peat is used in the Peat free potting soil developed by us. Due to the addition of broken hydro grains, this substrate still has sufficient water-absorbing capacity and, moreover, the new substrate contains enough plant food for a whole year. With this we have found the perfect balance between sustainability and quality

In our nursery we use Perlite Peat Free for propagation. This contains less nutrition than in the normal Peat-free potting soil. The perlite grain retains less moisture so that the soil dries faster. For plants that have few roots, this is better for development, because they have to look for food and water.
