Origin
The Alocasia 'Polly' originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. It is particularly suited to the sultry climate of Borneo, an island shared by Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. The plant is part of the Araceae family, also known as the Arum family. It is also known by the name 'Elephant's Ear' due to the large, ear-shaped leaves.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Alocasia 'Polly' are its large, arrow-shaped leaves. They have deep, dark green veins that contrast strongly with the light green leaf margins. The leaves are glossy, thick and have a leathery texture. The plant grows compact but can reach up to 50 cm in height. The Alocasia 'Polly' rarely blooms, but with good care it can produce small, cream-coloured flowers.

Care
The Alocasia 'Polly' has a high light requirement, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. Hence, a spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal. As it originates from a tropical climate, the plant thrives in high humidity. It is recommended to mist the plant regularly. Frequent watering is required, but make sure that the roots do not stand in water, as this can lead to root rot. It is wise to give the plant less water in winter. As for nutrition, the Alocasia 'Polly' benefits from regular fertilisation during the growing season.
