Origin
The Phalaenopsis BigLip mix, also known as the moth orchid, originates from the wild orchids in the rainforests of Asia and Australia. It is a member of the orchid family that ranges from India all the way to the Philippines. The name Phalaenopsis ultimately comes from the ancient Greek word Phalaina, which means 'moth', and 'opsis', which means 'pseudo', referring to the resemblance of the flowers to these insects.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis BigLip mix is most well-known for its flowers with large lip-shaped petals. This orchid typically blooms once a year and can reach varying heights of 30 to 60 cm. The plant has a basal rosette of leaves from which long flowering branches with clusters of flowers emerge. The flowers vary in colour from white, pink, purple to mixed colour combinations.
Care
When caring for the Phalaenopsis BigLip mix, it is important to ensure that the plant gets enough light, but it should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The ideal temperature for the plant's growth is around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. The plant should also be watered regularly; approximately twice a week. Furthermore, the Phalaenopsis BigLip mix enjoys high humidity, which can be simulated by regularly spraying water around the plant.
