Origin
Phalaenopsis 'Pirate picotee' is a variety within the Phalaenopsis genus, which originates from Southeast Asia and parts of Australia. This particular cultivar was developed through selective breeding in greenhouses, mainly for ornamental purposes. The species is widely cultivated in the Netherlands and other countries with a large market for pot plants.

Characteristics
Phalaenopsis 'Pirate picotee' is characterised by its white flowers with a striking purple to pink edge. The flowers have a flat, broad shape and typically appear in a cluster on a long flower stem. The leaves are firm, dark green, and grow in a rosette at the base of the plant. Given the right conditions, the plant generally flowers several times a year. The flowers usually have a diameter of 6 to 8 centimetres.

Care
This orchid requires a light position, but should not be placed in direct sunlight. Daytime temperatures should be between 20 and 24°C, with a cooler period at night. Humidity levels should not be too low; around 50 to 70 percent is ideal. Water should preferably be applied to the roots, with the potting soil kept lightly moist. Fertilising is best done during the growth and flowering period.
