Origin
The Guzmania Rockyflower Candy is a species within the bromeliad family and originates from Central and South America. Like many of its relatives, this species grows wild in the shady rainforests. They have adapted to an epiphytic lifestyle, growing on tree trunks and rocks, and taking nutrients from the air and rainwater, instead of being rooted in the ground themselves.
Characteristics
What characterises the Guzmania Rockyflower Candy is the beautiful, brightly coloured inflorescence that shoots up like a firework from the heart of the plant. These striking colours can range from bright red to orange and yellow. The plant has long leaves that grow in a rosette, centrally focused around the eye-catching flower heart. The height of a mature Guzmania can vary from 30 to 40 cm and the width of the rosette can go up to about 30 cm.
Care
In terms of the care of the Guzmania Rockyflower Candy, it's important to know that this plant needs plenty of light, but shouldn't be placed in direct sunlight. A spot near a window facing east or west is ideal. To support growth and flowering, it is recommended to regularly feed with a bromeliad-specific fertiliser. As this species mainly takes in nutrients and moisture from the air, it is advisable to regularly spray the plant's leaf rosette with rainwater.
