Origin
The Anthurium andraeanum Mix, also known as the Flamingo Plant, traces its origin to Colombia and Ecuador in South America. Here the plant thrives in the moist, tropical rainforests. The local flora is rich and diverse, which results in the Anthurium andraeanum Mix growing in the wild in a multitude of variations. The plant is a member of the Araceae family, also known as the Arum family.
Characteristics
The Anthurium andraeanum Mix is a striking plant due to its glossy green leaves and starkly contrasting flowers. The flowers are actually coloured bracts, varying from red to pink, white and orange, which slowly change colour as they age. The center of the flower is a straight spadix, upon which small flowers grow. The plant can reach up to 60 centimeters in height and flowers can develop all year round, peaking in the spring and summer.
Care
The Anthurium andraeanum Mix requires specific care in order to grow and bloom. It prefers a light location, but should not be placed in direct sunlight. The ideal temperature for this plant is between 20-22 degrees Celsius. The plant requires regular watering, but it is crucial to prevent the roots from standing in water in order to avoid root rot. A high air humidity is also beneficial, which can be achieved by regularly spraying the plant with water.
