Origin
The Bromelia Surprise mix originates from subtropical and tropical America. This species of the Bromelia genus mainly grows in the rainforests of South America. The name Bromelia honours the Swedish botanist Olaf Bromelius.
Characteristics
The Bromelia Surprise mix is known for its colourful bractees, the bracts that are often mistaken for flowers. The actual flowers are small and are usually found amongst these bractees. The plant has long, pointed leaves that arrange themselves in a rosette shape. Another striking characteristic is the plant's central core, which serves as a water reservoir.
Care
For optimal care, the Bromelia Surprise mix should be placed in a brightly lit space, but not in direct sunlight. This tropical plant loves high humidity and temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. Ideally, the water reservoir in the central core should regularly be filled with rainwater or softened water. The soil should not dry out but should also not be kept too wet.
