Origin
The Vriesea Christiane is a plant from the Bromeliaceae family, originally from the tropical regions of Central and South America. It is named after the Belgian botanist Willem Hendrik de Vriese, in honour of his significant contribution to botanical science.

Characteristics
The Vriesea Christiane is an epiphytic houseplant, which means that it can grow in trees rather than in soil in nature. The plant is known for its striking purple flower spike, enclosed by the bright green, wax-coated, pointed leaves. The leaves are lance-shaped and form a rosette base, from which the flower stem grows. The flowering of Vriesea Christiane usually lasts several months, and after flowering, the flowers and leaves gradually die off, after which new shoots appear from the base.

Care
The Vriesea Christiane prefers a well-lit location but without direct sunlight, and moderate temperatures. Excessive light can burn the leaves, while too little light can hinder flowering. This plant likes a high humidity, but it is also resistant to the drier conditions of many homes. In terms of watering, regular and moderate moistening is recommended, but it is important to also occasionally replace the water in the rosette base of the plant to prevent rot. To support growth, it is recommended to apply a balanced fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
