Origin
The Guzmania Suerte Cerise is a type of bromeliad that originates from Central and South America. It includes rainforest inhabitants from countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica and Panama. The plant is named after the Spanish botanist Anastasio Guzman, who contributed enormously to the botanical knowledge of this area.
Characteristics
The Guzmania Suerte Cerise is an epiphytic plant, which means it grows on other plants without parasitising them. Instead, the Guzmania derives its nutrients from the air, rain, and the waste that accumulates around its base. A characteristic feature of this houseplant is its bright, cerise (cherry-red) bracts that contrast beautifully with the green leaves. A beautiful flower forms in the centre of the plant.
Care
Taking care of the Guzmania Suerte Cerise requires little effort. The plant needs a high humidity level, which means it thrives best in a warm, moist environment. The Guzmania needs little light and should therefore be placed where it is not exposed to direct sunlight. It is important to regularly water the plant, and fertilise it with liquid plant food for bromeliads. Proper care is of great importance for the plant's lifespan and bloom.
