Origin
The Phalaenopsis Mondriaan is a variant of the Phalaenopsis orchid, which is native to Southeast Asia. This species can be found in areas such as the Philippines and Northern Australia. The plant has been specially developed for the commercial market by breeding companies and is named after the Dutch painter Piet Mondriaan.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Mondriaan is known for its striking flowers. These are characterised by a combination of white and purple colours, arranged in a geometric pattern, a nod to the work of the eponymous painter. The plant has shiny, dark green leaves and can reach a height of approximately 60 centimetres.
Care
Caring for the Phalaenopsis Mondriaan requires some attention. This houseplant grows best at temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Make sure to provide a light position, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn. Watering is needed when the potting soil has dried out, approximately once a week. Too much water can cause root rot, which is detrimental to the plant.
