Origin
The Rhododendron (Simsii Grp) 'Hellmut Vogel' is a type of rhododendron that stands out because of its rare black-red flowers. This plant species originates from Asia, but is nowadays also cultivated in many places in the Western world. The plant carries the nickname 'Hellmut Vogel' in honour of the famous German garden architect Hellmut Vogel, who is known for his work with rhododendrons.

Characteristics
The 'Hellmut Vogel' is particularly noticeable for its deep red, almost black flowers. These form a strong contrast with the fresh green leaves. The flowers bloom in the late spring and early summer. It generally grows quickly and swiftly forms a dense bush. With a maximum height of about 1.5 meters, it is not too large and therefore suitable for smaller gardens.

Care
The 'Hellmut Vogel' is fairly easy to care for. The plant thrives best in a shady spot, but can also tolerate partial shade. It prefers a humus-rich, well-drained soil. During dry periods, the plant needs regular watering. Pruning is not necessary, but may be desirable to maintain the shape of the plant, this can best be done immediately after flowering.
