Origin
The Guzmania mix, also known as Bromelia, has its origin in the tropical areas of Central and South America. This plant family, belonging to the Bromeliaceae, grows in the wild under humid conditions, often under the shade of larger trees.
Characteristics
The Guzmania mix is a popular house plant, primarily because of its colourful, long-blooming bracts that surround the real, smaller flowers. The plant has a rosette of long, narrow, shiny green leaves and can reach up to 45 cm in height. The flowering period of the plant is between spring and summer, although with good care it can also bloom outside of this season.
Care
Caring for the Guzmania mix requires high humidity, similar to the conditions in its natural habitat. The plant needs a spot with indirect light and room temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. It is important to regularly mist the plant and water it in the tube of leaves instead of directly on the soil. Standing water in the planter should be avoided to prevent root rot.
