Origin
The Peperomia Chocolat originally comes from Central and South America, where it is primarily found in shady or semi-sunny places. It is part of the Piperaceae family, which includes around 1600 species. The name 'Peperomia' is derived from the Greek word 'Peperi', meaning 'pepper', and 'homou', meaning 'resembling', due to its similarity to pepper plants.

Characteristics
The Peperomia Chocolat is a compact houseplant that is recognised by its vibrant, shiny leaves. These leaves feature a deep chocolate brown colour, hence the name 'Chocolat'. The plant itself grows in width and can reach a height of up to 20 centimetres. In the wild, the plant typically grows as an epiphyte in the rainforest.

Care
The care for the Peperomia Chocolat is relatively simple, due to the resilient nature of the plant. It prefers bright, indirect light and does not tolerate direct sunlight well. Watering must be done sparingly, the soil must fully dry out before the next watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot. In the growing period, from March to October, the plant will need to be fed monthly with a light, water-soluble fertilizer.
