Origin
The Euphorbia Milii Cardinal, also known as the Crown of Thorns, has its origin in Madagascar. It is believed that the plant was brought to the Middle East by travellers during the Middle Ages. There, the plant subsequently got its nickname, because the prickly stems are associated with the Crown of Thorns of Christ.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia Milii Cardinal is an evergreen shrub with prickly stems and leathery leaves. However, the most striking characteristic are the brightly coloured flowers, which range from red to pink and white. The plant can grow up to 1 meter high and generally blooms throughout the year, with the peak in the spring.
Care
As for the care, the Euphorbia Milii Cardinal requires a lot of light, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The plant likes well-draining soil and moderate watering is usually sufficient. It is advisable to water the plant less in winter and protect it from frost, as it is not frost hardy.
