Origin
The Hoya Mathilde splash is a hybrid Hoya that resulted from a cross between Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens. The plant was created by botanists in laboratories and therefore does not naturally occur in the wild. This Hoya species also carries the nickname 'Pearl of Hoya' due to its beauty.
Characteristics
The Hoya Mathilde splash is characterised by its glossy, fleshy, heart-shaped leaves with distinctive white 'splash' spots. It has small, spherical clusters of white waxy flowers with pink centres that are surrounded by a star-like crown. It particularly shows its beauty in spring and summer with the blooming period ranging from 20 to 25 days.
Care
Caring for the Hoya Mathilde splash requires some precision. The plant prefers bright but indirect sunlight and temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Overwatering should be avoided as the plant is relatively drought tolerant and susceptible to root rot. It is recommended to only water the plant when the top layer of soil feels dry. This plant species can cope well with average indoor humidity, but prefers higher humidity.
